Saivann - sorry for not being able to post those steps you mentioned yet. The reason is that things have gotten worse - now, the Unlock button for Users and Groups is grayed out and so I can't even get past that step (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system- tools/+bug/231246). I probably need to first reboot the machine but I can't do it now as other things depend on this machine staying up and running. I will report back as soon as I can move past this new hurdle.
