under sound preferences, all were set to autodetect. when tested gave an error. tested other options. ALSA and OSS worked for test. ESD froze sound preferences. PulseAudio Sound Server gave an error. I've set them all to ALSA and Rhythmbox Music Player is now working. Thank You.
