I failed to mention my other findings on the atheros wireless.
first..it was detected and installed ..not sure it was properly..but madwifi
was there.
the thing that wasnt detected was the dritek keyboard..with some extra
buttons..one of which was to turn on/off the wireless. there was no other way
to turn it on (I even tried in hopes that the toshkey util would do
something..but no good). in my research i found a post that called for removing
the card and covering one of the contacts but it was for mini pci and i have
mini pci express, so that didnt work.
the new drivers allowed me to start the connection at boot and it worked ok.
also failed to mention specs.
acer aspire 5520 AMD turion 64 Atheros ar5007 Ubuntu hardy 32bit.
