Does it work if you install the Canadian English dictionary? You can install it via File->Wizards->Install new dictionaries. I notice that there are myspell dictionaries for au, gb, us, za but not for Canada, so that probably should be packaged as well if available. I am marking this for the Ubuntu 8.10-beta milestone to make sure it gets looked into for Intrepid.
