As proprietary drivers are proprietary, the only real hope is to either
contact ATI directly (oh, they do fix display adapter and driver related
bugs, I have corresponded with them previously and they did excellent
job) or to find the problem from the gnome-screensaver instead. It might
be that still as well so I am setting this to there.

Quite honestly though, isn't there any IBM/Lenovo model with better
display adapter? The Intel's newest are a lot more sturdy, and they work
99,99% the time perfectly without having to play around with any
proprietary drivers... Anyways, I hope you get to somewhere.
