Conn, what do you mean by "ESD output"?  The default GSt audiosink as
shipped in hardy is pulsesink.  Pulseaudio is invoked via ESD
compatibility (cf. pulseaudio-esound-compat package).  We do not need to
make any changes in GSt or its configuration, because alsasink is
attempted if pulsesink fails.

I think many people are missing the point of this protracted discussion,
which is to avoid Firefox 3.0 beta 5 crashing repeatedly (whether
deterministically or otherwise).  Hardy shipped with this goal met for
both i386 and amd64.

The issue that I am attempting to address is the nondeterministic
inaudibility of Flash with random PulseAudio clients.
