Jeremy, That is one possible way to make sounds work correctly, but it is not what Daniel was referring to. Daniel was talking about comment #136 in which he has modified PulseAudio to use ALSA's dmix. To test this solution, you should probably remove nspluginwrapper and libflashsupport, otherwise it will cause confusion.
Daniel, The PulseAudio developers seem to think it's a bad idea to use dmix...
