Johan Brannlund : When you installed ubuntu the first time, the
restricted nvidia driver was not installed. Xorg can work without this
driver for sure but you have to use Restricted driver manager to remove
the nvidia drivers or Xorg will still search nvidia driver because of
/etc/X11/xorg.conf . you may try to re-install nvidia drivers through
restricted driver manager, and then to remove them.

Thanks for your picture, it looks like the screen turns white, slowly.
I've already see that in Xorg with a graphic card in the past..
