I don't know what role UPnP might have in this, but my Internet connection is definitely working (when not cutting off), and the connection method is DHCP. I think when an ADSL connection is made with DHCP, one is always supposed to leave the "default gateway" blank, I remember doing so for years - even when I was still using Windows. The manual of my ADSL device also tells to "remove all gateways".
