The problem with the posted solution to this bug is that Fixedsys Excelsior really needs to be viewed at 12-point (its native bitmap resolution) to look good. It generally appears blurry at other sizes.
Attached is a copy of Fixedsys Excelsior 3.01 that I have modified slightly so that it can be used at 12-point under Linux.
