Julien : Thanks for the detailed informations you provide. I believe
that 1280x800 is not a working mode for usplash. Most probably that you
changed the values in /etc/usplash.conf but you did not apply your
changes by typing "sudo update-initramfs -u", so the modifications that
you made on the /etc/usplash.conf file appeared only after a kernel
update. Can you :

1. Set back your /etc/usplash.conf file to contains xres=1024 yres=768
2. run "sudo update-initramfs -u" ( without the quotes " )
3. Reboot your computer and tell us if that fixed your issue with usplash 
missing at boot?
