I have a similar BENQ DVD drive, and an identical problem: hdc: ATAPI DVD DD 2X16X4X16, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive hdc: ATAPI 40X DVD-ROM DVD-R CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, UDMA(33)
In addition, lots of people seem to have this problem with plextor drives. The hack/fix suggested here worked for me: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?p=1758695#post1758695 Since the code immediately above it is trying to parse the command output for error conditions, I'm guessing that this is some non-error condition that is flagged as though it were an error.
