The team is blocked on SRU testing for several devices that show “Out of Memory” in GRUB after an upgrade that includes NVIDIA 580. Because the failure occurs before the kernel loads, the thread does not establish the NVIDIA driver itself as the cause.
Testing pointed toward initrd size: one reported 525-era initrd was 121 MB, while initrds after the upgrade were about 297–308 MB. Holding NVIDIA packages allowed a boot, but Jose cautioned that the test did not isolate the cause because other packages were also changing. Changing /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf to MODULES=dep was followed by a successful boot. That is a diagnostic result, not an agreed permanent fix. The team still needs to identify the precise GRUB limitation and where a machine- specific change belongs. Jose suggested a rule shipped through the OEM archive; Kevin suggested involving Rex’s team rather than making that change themselves.
