Public bug reported:
I was expecting the lcov version to be reported as '2.4-3' but it is
'2.0-1'.
$ apt-cache policy lcov
lcov:
Installed: 2.4-3
Candidate: 2.4-3

$ lcov --version

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS

I checked Debian's boards and they two bugs tracking it:

I am opening a bug here to make sure the fixes get pushed to Ubuntu
