Public bug reported:
During an Ubuntu release upgrade on a headless server, nginx-core failed
to configure. The upgrade reported errors processing:
- nginx-core
- nginx
- python3-certbot-nginx
The reported package error was:
package nginx-core 1.18.0-6ubuntu14.21 failed to install/upgrade:
installed nginx-core package post-installation script subprocess
returned error exit status 1
The release upgrader then reported:
Exception during pm.DoInstall(): E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an
error code (1)
Expected result: The release upgrade completes and the packages
configure successfully.
Actual result: Package configuration fails with the errors above.
I selected “Send report” in the release upgrader, which collected and
uploaded problem information before directing me to this report. I
expected the diagnostic logs to be attached automatically. The final
console output does not show the underlying reason the nginx-core post-
installation script failed.
