Public bug reported:

After installing Linux kernel 6.17 HWE on Linux Mint based on Ubuntu
24.04, the system failed to boot.

Affected kernels:
- 6.17.0-29-generic
- 6.17.0-35-generic

The boot process stops with:

Kernel panic - not syncing:
VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

The system boots normally with:

6.14.0-37-generic

Hardware:
Lenovo IdeaPad 320-15AST
BIOS: 5PCN15WW (06/01/2017)
CPU: AMD A6-9220
RAM: 8GB
Storage: Micron_1100_MTFDDAK256TBN SATA SSD

Root filesystem:
Device: /dev/sda3
Filesystem: ext4
UUID: e7b0fcf4-a1c8-476e-aae8-01d864f08c6c

The UUID and /etc/fstab configuration are correct.
The same installation boots successfully using kernel 6.14.0-37-generic.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Linux kernel 6.17 HWE.
2. Reboot.
3. Select kernel 6.17 from GRUB.
4. Kernel panic occurs with VFS unable to mount root filesystem.

Workaround:
Removed kernel 6.17 packages and regenerated GRUB.
The system works normally again with kernel 6.14.0-37-generic.
