Public bug reported:
System & Hardware Information:
• Laptop Model: Dell XPS
• Touchpad Device: VEN_06CB:00 06CB:CE7E Touchpad
• Driver: i2c_hid_acpi / i2c_designware
• OS: Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Resolute)
• Broken Kernel: 7.0.0-22-generic
• Last Known Good Kernel: 7.0.0-15-generic
Issue Description:
After upgrading to kernel 7.0.0-22 , the I2C touchpad completely freezes and
stops responding to all physical input. GNOME Settings ( gsettings get
org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad send-events ) still reports the device
as 'enabled', but no cursor movement or clicks
are registered.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot into kernel 7.0.0-22-generic .
2. Use the touchpad normally.
3. Within approximately 1 minute of usage, the touchpad will entirely freeze.
Expected Behavior:
The i2c_hid driver should maintain a stable connection with the touchpad
controller, as it consistently does on the 7.0.0-15 kernel.
Workarounds Attempted:
• Rebooting into the older 7.0.0-15 kernel completely resolves the issue,
confirming this is a kernel regression in 7.0.0-22 .
• Running sudo rmmod i2c_hid_acpi i2c_hid && sudo modprobe i2c_hid_acpi on
the broken kernel re-initializes the touchpad, but it freezes again shortly
after (~1 minute).

Title:
Dell XPS Touchpad (VEN_06CB:00 06CB:CE7E) works perfectly on kernel
7.0.0-15 but freezes completely within 1 minute on kernel 7.0.0-22.
Reloading i2c_hid_acpi only temporarily restores functionality
