Thanks, José. That answers the policy side of the question: Ubuntu is intentionally retiring the packaged 470 series and the official guidance is now either nouveau or the NVIDIA-provided legacy `.run` installer for hardware that cannot move to a newer branch.
For this bug, the remaining issue is the user-facing migration behaviour on Kepler hardware. On this Jammy-based system with a GTX 760, the normal `nvidia- driver-470` package path resolves toward 535, but 535 is not a usable replacement for this GPU. NVIDIA’s own message says this class of GPU is supported through the 470.xx legacy drivers and that the 535 driver will ignore it. So I think this report is probably best treated as related to, or a duplicate of, bug 2155202. The specific datapoint here is: ```text OS: Linux Mint 21.3 / Ubuntu Jammy package base GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 / PCI ID 10de:1187 Working branch: 470.256.02 Broken migration branch: 535 ``` The current `470-server` packages restored this machine for now, but based on Daniel’s note that the server packages may also become transitional, I agree that it should not be documented as a stable long- term workaround. The practical request is therefore not “please keep 470 supported forever”, but: 1. please make clear that 470 to 535 is not a valid migration path for Kepler GPUs; 2. please avoid presenting 535 as a replacement on hardware it will ignore; 3. please document the supported choices clearly for Jammy/Kepler users: nouveau, NVIDIA’s legacy `.run` installer with the stated kernel-update risk, or holding/pinning existing packages at the user’s own risk until the transition is clarified. Feel free to mark this bug as a duplicate of bug 2155202 if that is the right place to track the migration breakage. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2155424 Title: Question: nvidia-driver-470 on Jammy resolves to 535 on GTX 760; should users be directed to 470-server instead?
