Thank you very much for the detailed reply - your trouble is much appreciated. Whilst I haven't tested it on the working spreadsheet I think your solution/info is just right. At first I thought the Excel version was 'tidier' but actully there must be occasions when one would want to sort a number of parts of rows, sort by reference to column sort - which one cannot do by either method I have tried, but it would appear that one could add a menu choice box more easily to the OpenOffice spreadsheet version more easily to sort part of rows??? Maybe it never crops up, but it may be a good feature - at present if a whole row is marked it would not work?

The sort data function depends on whether you've selected a column or a row, so if you select the rows you want to sort before selecting Data->Sort... from the menu, then I think it does the right thing. I've attached a screencast for your viewing pleasure (try to ignore my mouse randomly jumping around, there seems to be a bug with the vmware mouse driver). Let me know if this is what you're looking for. ** Attachment added: "oocalc_row_sort.ogg" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/11418200/oocalc_row_sort.ogg -- sorting function problem in OpenOffice Spreadsheet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/179755 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. --------------------------------- Sent from Yahoo! - a smarter inbox. -- sorting function problem in OpenOffice Spreadsheet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/179755 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
