Thank you very much for the detailed reply - your trouble is much
appreciated. Whilst I haven't tested it on the working spreadsheet I
think your solution/info is just right. At first I thought the Excel
version was 'tidier' but actully there must be occasions when one would
want to sort a number of parts of rows, sort by reference to column sort
- which one cannot do by either method I have tried, but it would appear
that one could add a menu choice box more easily to the OpenOffice
spreadsheet version more easily to sort part of rows??? Maybe it never
crops up, but it may be a good feature - at present if a whole row is
marked it would not work?

The sort data function depends on whether you've selected a column or a
row, so if you select the rows you want to sort before selecting
Data->Sort... from the menu, then I think it does the right thing. I've
attached a screencast for your viewing pleasure (try to ignore my mouse
randomly jumping around, there seems to be a bug with the vmware mouse
driver). Let me know if this is what you're looking for.
