Sounds like two unrelated issues so please separate this into two bugs.

Also resizing of a VM window can be handled in two different ways:

1. If the guest supports arbitrary resizing then it probably has some
kind of "guest additions" package. If that's the feature you're missing
then the guest additions package is either not installed or not working
with newer kernels.

2. If there is no special guest additions package then VM resizing is
implemented by telling the guest their monitor has been unplugged and it
gets replaced by a new virtual monitor with new resolution (window
dimensions). If that somehow isn't working then it may be a kernel bug.
