I do think this would go too far. The nice thing about vi is that it is
ubiquitous. You can find it in every Unix-like system under the Sun.
Even on Busybox-based tiny embedded linuxes.

I don't care about strict vi compatibility. If the arrow keys do work in
insert mode, that won't annoy me: I only ever use them in command mode,
and I do not *depend* on them being broken in insert mode. The lack of a
‘vi’ command could be annoying though.
