Public bug reported:
The NVIDIA driver fails to initialize, making the GPU unusable. nvidia-smi
reports "couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver."
The kernel log (dmesg) repeatedly shows the error:
nvidia 0000:01:00.0: probe with driver nvidia failed with error -1
This issue persists despite extensive troubleshooting to eliminate all
common configuration errors. The problem seems to be a hardware or low-
level incompatibility.

Motherboard: MAXSUN B650i ITX (AM5)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 40-series (PCI ID 10de:2f04)
Troubleshooting Steps Already Performed:
Confirmed Secure Boot is Disabled in BIOS and via mokutil.
Installed dkms and the correct linux-headers for the running kernel.
Initially, the driver failed because it required the open-source
modules. This was fixed by installing the nvidia-driver-550-open
package.
The nvidia module is now confirmed to be loaded in the kernel via lsmod.
Corrected all relevant BIOS settings:
Primary Display Adapter: Set to PEG (PCI-Express Graphics).
Above 4G Decoding: Enabled.
Resizable BAR Support: Enabled.
CSM: Disabled.
Added the nvidia-drm.modeset=1 kernel parameter.
The probe failed with error -1 persists across multiple kernel versions,
including 6.14 and 6.15.
