other distros have the support just like the .11 and older do. In other
words other distros aren't up to date with latest features.

There seem to be a contradiction between the new features and the older
drivers.

I could be wrong but i don't think that it's a matter of developers not
wanting to support older drivers cause it's too much work. I think they're
weighing the benefits and choosing a side.
