Public bug reported: UniFi APs setup at home, with WiFi 6E AP right above the laptop and WiFi7 in another room. Previous laptop was ThinkPad P14s Gen2 with an Intel AX210 swap and was 100% solid.
Migrated (copied disks) the system to a new ThinkPad P14s Gen6 AMD that comes with a MediaTek chip, reporting as "c2:00.0 Network controller: MEDIATEK Corp. Device 7925", with the mt7925e driver taking care. Using 25.04: - the latest stable kernel was delivering poor wifi performances, barely 200Mbits, and IPv6 was broken - using plucky-proposed kernel (6.14.0-26-generic), wifi performances improved (800Mbits over 5GHz/80MHz) and IPv6 was fixed - 6GHz was not visible, "iw reg get" would report FR but cfg80211 would report WORLD - forcing modprobe with "options cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=FR" I get 6Ghz working, and decent speed (1.25Gbits up / 1.5 Gbits down) with iperf3 However on a regular basis (10-15 min, sometime less) WiFi link is lost for one second and dmesg reflects: juil. 25 09:50:59 portable-alex kernel: wlp194s0: Connection to AP 62:22:32:6e:xx:xx lost juil. 25 09:51:00 portable-alex wpa_supplicant[2781]: wlp194s0: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=62:22:32:6e:06:9a reason=4 locally_generated=1 juil. 25 09:51:00 portable-alex wpa_supplicant[2781]: wlp194s0: CTRL-EVENT-REGDOM-CHANGE init=CORE type=WORLD juil. 25 09:51:00 portable-alex wpa_supplicant[2781]: wlp194s0: CTRL-EVENT-REGDOM-CHANGE init=USER type=COUNTRY alpha2=FR juil. 25 09:51:00 portable-alex NetworkManager[2776]: <info> [1753429860.3779] device (wlp194s0): supplicant interface state: completed -> disconnected juil. 25 09:51:00 portable-alex NetworkManager[2776]: <info> [1753429860.3779] device (p2p-dev-wlp194s0): supplicant management interface state: completed -> disconnected From there it disconnects from the 6Ghz frequency, and quickly recovers to a 5.2GHz and then a few minutes laters, it goes back to the 6GHz frequency: juil. 25 09:56:01 portable-alex wpa_supplicant[2781]: wlp194s0: Reject scan trigger since one is already pending juil. 25 09:56:10 portable-alex wpa_supplicant[2781]: wlp194s0: SME: Trying to authenticate with 62:22:32:6e:06:9a (SSID='Livebox-XX' freq=6135 MHz) juil. 25 09:56:11 portable-alex kernel: wlp194s0: disconnect from AP 94:2a:6f:b0:xx:xx for new auth to 62:22:32:6e:06:9a juil. 25 09:56:11 portable-alex kernel: wlp194s0: authenticate with 62:22:32:6e:xx:xx (local address=84:9e:56:e3:c6:27) juil. 25 09:56:11 portable-alex kernel: wlp194s0: send auth to 62:22:32:6e:xx:xx (try 1/3) juil. 25 09:56:11 portable-alex NetworkManager[2776]: <info> [1753430171.2712] device (wlp194s0): supplicant interface state: completed -> authenticating juil. 25 09:56:11 portable-alex NetworkManager[2776]: <info> [1753430171.2712] device (p2p-dev-wlp194s0): supplicant management interface state: completed -> authenticating juil. 25 09:56:11 portable-alex wpa_supplicant[2781]: wlp194s0: CTRL-EVENT-REGDOM-CHANGE init=CORE type=WORLD juil. 25 09:56:11 portable-alex wpa_supplicant[2781]: wlp194s0: CTRL-EVENT-REGDOM-CHANGE init=USER type=COUNTRY alpha2=FR juil. 25 09:56:11 portable-alex wpa_supplicant[2781]: wlp194s0: Trying to associate with 62:22:32:6e:xx:xx (SSID='Livebox-XX' freq=6135 MHz) I am not sure if the "CTRL-EVENT-REGDOM-CHANGE" messages are a symptom of why it looses the link, or a consequence. This is resulting in a not so good experience, with the network being fast enough and then suddenly slow a bit then goes back better.
