XPS 14-9440 needs at least a 6.9 kernel for the sound to work.

"Tested the snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0 kernel parameter."
Undo this. It's not needed and automatically breaks at least the microphone.

"Manually installed the latest sof-firmware binaries (v2.9)"
Undo this. Ubuntu's SOF firmware package has what you need:
sudo rm -rf /lib/firmware/intel/sof*
sudo apt install --reinstall firmware-sof-signed

Now you can install a newer kernel, either the -generic or -oem variant
sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-24.04
OR
sudo apt install linux-oem-24.04b
