Since rebuilt of re-built gtk4 - as suggested by Florian Pflug - is way beyond my skills, I followed Jon trick above, modified /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and voilĂ : it worked!
In my case, setting TimedLoginDelay = 3 was enough to allow the system behave properly.
