I can confirm that merecat from noble-proposed has fixed the bug for me.
Test done:
try to install merecat and confirm that it still fails to install.
Added noble-proposed to apt sources.
install merecat from noble-proposed and confirmed it installs this time.
Checked "systemctl status merecat.service" to confirm merecat is
running.
