Could you describe your beginning and end states, and the movement to
get there better? If i'm reading correctly, is this a reproducer?

1. install latest Xubuntu
2. switch to vanilla Ubuntu Desktop
3. uninstall samba
4. re-install samba

A basic test against an Ubuntu 20.04 container didn't have issues. Could
you also provide `libldb2` versions? This is what i had installed on a
fresh focal container:

ii python3-samba 2:4.15.13+dfsg-0ubuntu0.20.04.8 amd64
  Python 3 bindings for Samba
ii samba 2:4.15.13+dfsg-0ubuntu0.20.04.8 amd64

ii samba-common 2:4.15.13+dfsg-0ubuntu0.20.04.8 all
common files used by both the Samba server and client
ii samba-common-bin 2:4.15.13+dfsg-0ubuntu0.20.04.8 amd64
