I've made a change in Ironic CI to test this change: https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic/+/933104 -- our crashes were not reliably happening so I can't guarantee a lack of failure in our CI will indicate it works, but I'll get a few runs to check. We have never been able to exactly reproduce the issue in our CI, but we saw it 5-10% of the time.
Assuming this is a valid fix, it'd be exceptional to get this put into ubuntu SRU to prevent us needing to use a PPA in our CI.
