Public bug reported:

I have experienced filesystem corruption leading to severe data loss in
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

For instance, the file manager (called 'Files' under Apps) often
disallows creating a new folder or copying or transferring files.

This is probably denied permission to write to the filesystem, but a
permission issue is illogical for a new installation of Ubuntu that was
installed conventionally. This problem never corrected itself despite
new updates coming in every week or so.

A go-around is opening the Utility 'Disks' and repairing the filesystem
(click 'Repair Filesystem' from the settings menu). But then this must
be done every time logging into Ubuntu.

You might say I temporarily discovered a go-around, but then this had
severe consequences one day when I lost gigabytes of data after clicking
'Repair Filesystem'. Directories corrupted and could not be accessed.
Data was truncated. I lost data.

I never experienced this problem before on any installation of Linux, so
what is going on now ? Is this a bad version of Ubuntu Linux. What do I
do about my data loss ? (Who do I sue ?).
