Thank you for taking the time to report this problem, and help making
Ubuntu better.

QUESTION: What OS & release are you writing the thumb-drive with? (ie.
details of the GNOME-DISKS and StartUp Disk Creator, as I wonder if
it's how you write your ISO to media.

I am writing various ISOs (mainly Lubuntu, but other flavors too and on
occasion Ubuntu) to thumb-drive and booting it on various BIOS only
devices (hp dc7700, dc7900, dell 745, 755, 780 etc).

I personally use `mkusb` to write my media, but regularly also just use
`dd`.., but I'm usually writing media on a hirsute box (hence the
request for details on what OS/release you use to write your ISO)

I note your `lshw` shows an "i5-3570" CPU which is more modern than any
BIOS only box I use (my boxes are c2d (t6570, u9400, e6600, e6850,
e8300..), c2q-q9400 etc) so maybe it's a quirk on your hardware,
compared to the older hp, dell, lenovo.. I test with.
