@niemeyer Your tone suggests that you do not understand why this
seemingly small issue is so important to many people. It is NOT just
esthetics, or rigid ideology. Others have mentioned issues with mounts
and disk space. Or imagine having a script which follows the XDG spec,
for backing up or syncing one's personal data or something similar. When
Snap, which is now built into Ubuntu, comes out of nowhere and dumps
large quantities of data, that will certainly require rewriting the
script and may even have cost money if you were on a metered connection.
This is wny, yes, I literally preferred purging Snap and resorting to
jiggery-pokery by pinning a Debian APT repo just to get Chromium. So my
comment was really in response to a remark by @stolowski that "our hands
are full with other features, and of higher priority". Tell us at least,
are there any other bugs that have as many users whining as this one?
Perhaps the actual users should have a little more say in deciding
priority.
