Quick update: I turned off “quiet splash” in grub so I could see the boot information in the background. It appears that the machine is hanging on: [ 3.713332] fb: switching to inteldrmfb from VESA VGA I assume that’s what’s happening in the background when the machine hangs at the purple screen.
