Looks to me like upstream is already working on a GUI tool:

It also reveals that you can use `xinput` (which is already there) to do
what needs to be done.

Furthermore, reading a bit deeper into one of the implementations:
https://github.com/lxqt/lxqt-config/pull/109
one finds that synaptics is not only vendor specific and less general
but also in maintanence mode. Arch, Fedora, and Debian are all
recommending libinput instead of synaptics. That said, this should be
the way forward.
