Err...I don't know what you guys call "fixed" but I just updated some
packages and at the end of the updates, it says there is a new version
available and I can still choose to install it. When I do, it checks
some stuff, fetches packages, warns about ending support for some
package and then suddenly gives an error saying i already have the
latest version. So it still does the same as before (and as already
described above)

my setup: 
Last week, I installed Xubuntu 7.10 release candidate and then used "apt-get 
install kubuntu-desktop" to install kubuntu aswell. I've already run the 
"distribution upgrade" various times but it still comes back after every update.

On my pc at my dorms I have a clean kubuntu 7.10 install (no xubuntu, no
RC). It too had the bug when I updated on wednesday or thursday. When I
get back there on sunday, I'll see if I still have the bug there.
