I should've provided a bit more information really! I'm on a Samsung Q35. I don't know the exact details but it's an Intel graphics card.
Anyway, since I raised this bug, I tried entering metacity --replace at a shell prompt (Alt+F2 won't work from compiz). Everything's fine then. So then I tried entering compiz --replace (Alt+F2 works in metacity) and I lose the title bars again.
