Dear Hans could you please test if a more generic solution like the one
provided by Epson would also work for local attached Brother Scanners ?
A possible Example:
# chmod device BROTHER group
ATTRS{manufacturer}=="BROTHER", DRIVERS=="usb", SUBSYSTEMS=="usb",
ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ATTRS{idProduct}=="*", MODE="0777"
