Sorry, actually it was iwlwifi-3160-15.ucode and then
iwlwifi-3160-14.ucode that I tried which both worked better than the
default (since it's the highest revision) which is
iwlwifi-3160-16.ucode.

@Seth - I tested that package, confirmed that version 17 got loaded, and
initially it seemed to work better. I was able to detect and connect to
my 5Ghz network right away, and iwconfig shows the connection's bitrate
at 72 Mbps, which is what I'd expect with this card as it's 1x1:1.

However, when I launch Kodi and it starts picking up my network shares,
it's very slow to load the art assets (box covers, movie posters, etc.)
and if I try to play a video it hangs trying to launch.

Lower b/w-demanding tasks work ok - I can ssh into other machines on the
network, and apt update/upgrade seems to work ok.

It's like once the you start a sustained, moderately high data stream it
either starts dropping packets or the bitrate drops.

Also: in order to even detect 5Ghz networks, I had to add "option
11n_disable=8" to /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf.

I just can't wrap my head around why it would have worked excellent
through 15.04, then 15.10, but suddenly isn't working on 5Ghz at all...
it seems like quite a regression!

Anything else I can try or other data points I can provide?
