A possible (maybe better) temporary workaround that keeps a Launcher
icon, but also shows another Nautilus icon in the "running-apps"
section of the Launcher, which behaves as it should both for other
(internal and external) drives and Trash:

1) Open the folder "~/.local/share/applications" and change the name of
the desktop file for the Nautilus icon on the Launcher (e.g. I've
changed "org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop" to "nautilus.desktop".

2) Start dconf Editor, go to com.canonical.unity.launcher and add the
new entry to the list of "favorites".
