can you take a look at this packaging scripts [1] available from debian?

I'm almost able to compile gitg (from repo) using the latest libgit2-0
(GNOME 3 staging PPA) and this libgit2-glib packaging scripts for
Trusty.

Some errors are raised in the gitg execution which are weird
/usr/local/bin/gitg: error while loading shared libraries: libgitg-1.0.so.0: 
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
