This affects me, too, and I've been unable to fix the problem. I tried pureblood's #27 strategy and _tried_ using dpkg-recongifure grub-pc but even doing this with what I think are all my partitions it doesn't work.
I did set it up top dual boot into Windows 8 and Ubuntu 13.10. After update to 14.04 machine is now unusable, giving the "symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found" error and going to "grub rescue."
