This has effected SD cards, cds, dvds, and mounting my android phone
(admittedly, just a microSD card). Everything was automatic and easy
before the 12.10 upgrade.

I have the same problem with two upgraded versions of Ubuntu 32bit
12.10. USB, alternate partitions of the boot drive are not available.
They can be manually mounted via sudo mount, but are not otherwise
accessible.
