To clarify (according to memory):
Output: Running mktexlsr. This may take some time... 
Spawning of about 900 etex processes (which seem to stay)
Output: done.
Building format(s) --all . This may take some time...
Spawning of _many_ more processes

I did not have texlive installed in feisty, only tetex (and xmltex and
jadetex).

I cannot find any information in /var/log/aptitude* about version
