THis cannot be related to the mktexlsr process, because it calls a shell
script which in turn calls "ls" etc but does not run *any* tex program.

What could be that these processes where kicked of earlier ...

Did you use aptitude for upgrading? I have entries like:
Aptitude 0.4.4: log report
...
[UPGRADE] aircrack-ng 1:0.9-1 -> 1:0.9.1-1
[UPGRADE] apache2 2.2.3-5 -> 2.2.4-1
[UPGRADE] apache2-mpm-prefork 2.2.3-5 -> 2.2.4-1
...
