thanks for the update.

lets check some things:
- even on 12.04 LTS amd64  it works in general, but for some reason it crashes 
sometimes. correct?
- do you do something in simple scan (except hitting "scan page")? page 
reordering, deletion, crop, stopping a running scan, ...
- do you do something on the machine that might interfere in any way? 
(dis)connect usb devices, run low-level scripts, ...
- does it crash more or less nondeterministically or does it always crash 
immediately after hitting "scan page" for the eleventh time?
