There are even more lines in the error_log that are relevant:
E [18/Jun/2007:19:41:13 +0200] [cups-driverd] Unable to open
"/usr/share/ppd/HP-DeskJet_890C-hpijs.ppd" - No such file or directory
D [18/Jun/2007:19:41:13 +0200] copy_model: Running "cups-driverd cat
HP-DeskJet_890C-hpijs.ppd"...
E [18/Jun/2007:19:41:13 +0200] copy_model: empty PPD file!

lpadmin expects a model name after the -m switch as listed by the following
command:
$ lpinfo -m

This can either be a static PPD, e.g.:
openprinting/HP/mono_laser/HP_LaserJet_1200.ppd.gz
or a dynamically generated one, e.g.:
foomatic:HP-DeskJet_890C-hpijs.ppd

What behavior do you expect?

Symlinking is not a good idea because it creates infinites loops when
listing PPDs!

Another remark: you do not need to install hpijs-ppds, on a standard
Feisty installation hpijs PPDs are generated dynamically from foomatic-
db-hpijs.
