I have the same problem : my Epson Stylus Photo 750 (USB) is randomly
set to network printer instead of local since I upgraded from Edgy to
Feisty (or very soon after).

I tried to uninstall/reinstall it several times with no success. I've
just removed the package hal-cups-utils which I though came from the
Feisty upgrade (but it seems that other Feisty users don't have it
installed). At first I thought it worked back correctly, but after
printing three documents, the printer is unavailable again.

Please note that when the printer stops responding (I'm not sure it's
then that it's set to network), printing dialogs of applications still
list it but not its options. Also, when I try to use the Installed
Printers software and access the properties of the Epson, it hangs and I
have to force quit it.
