I opened bug #991004 to have the compat package in Ubuntu. Then
installed it manually as described there. Now I have:

libpthread.so.0 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0xb7568000)
so the compat version in /usr/local/lib is used, but it still fails:
