Ive tried your suggestion. Still failing to compile. I think the git issue was simply from local files I had hanging aroung after doing things out of order. so git stash simply put the local changes apart from the current checkout. The lcoal files are just the copy from the ubuntu tree I suspect. Before raising the white flag, I'm going to try it on a version of natty (installing now), The compile fail doesnt give me much to go on - it could be the ubuntu package from 3.0.0 thats the problem.
