vola: Yup, your SATA controller is a Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) so you're seeing the fallout of Bug #116996 . Can you upload the contents of your /etc/fstab ? I'm guessing not all your hard disk partitions are referenced using UUIDs so when the drives were "renamed" in the new kernel the partitions could no longer be found....
